The 23rd Annual Brockville and District Chamber of Commerce Mixed Golf Tournament held at the Brockville Country Club Friday, June 3, 2011 had a couple of exciting new additions to their event. The Peter Publow/Cobblestone Realty Putt for $2,500 and the Wills Transfer Ltd $100,000 Shootout. Participants had to buy into the events then qualify during a putting contest. Then one name was drawn from all who qualified for the putting contest and five names drawn for the shootout.In the case of the putting contest, the drawn name was Tom Blanchard. Those drawn for the shootout were: Anne MacDonald, Kevin Beattie, Mark Earl, Bob Pierce & Hugh Hammond.
Tom faced a downhill, breaking, 50 foot putt on BCC's #18 green for $2,500. One try only ... and Tom (at right in picture) DRAINED THE PUTT! The many spectators were estatic. Sponsor Peter Publow (at left) was shocked! It was a great putt, breaking about 4 feet and landing right into the heart of the cup. It certainly had everyone buzzing throughout the tournament's dinner and prize presentations that followed.
As for the shootout, five valent efforts, but no cigar. Congratulations Tom! You certainly capped a great Chamber golf tournament in fine fashion.
