2016 BCC Summer Series Ready to Go!

The Brockville Country Club's Summer Series of Dinner/Show/Dances held in the Granite Hall each of the past 4 summers has been a great success. AND the 2016 version of the Summer Series is sure to please.
Four dinner/show/dances are now booked for this 2016 season. Two of the shows are encore presentations. The Summer Series will open with Feddy Vette and The Flames, the very popular 50's and 60's Rock & Roll band from Belleville. The series will close with The British Invasion from Toronto who put on a great performance last year and are sure to be a super closing act this year.
In between, we have two new shows for BCC's Summer Series. With patrons asking for a little Country Music, we are bringing in The Sons of Perry from Owen Sound. The evening will start a little later and have platters of food delivered to each table after the first set, rather than a full served meal beforehand.
The fourth show will feature The Toronto All-Star Big Band. This travelling band will feature some 26 talented youth (ages from 16 to 22) playing and singing many of the big band era music. This will be an exciting show and like all our shows, great to dance to.

Great Turnout for BCC "Swing & Sweep"

Saturday October, 17, 2015:  The Brockville Country Club held its "Swing and Sweep" on Saturday with 20 teams (80 participants) taking part. Each team curled two 4-ender games on the BCC's fine 6-sheet curling rink. Yup, the compressor pump has been repaired and curling is under way. Teams from Brockville, Kemptville and Ottawa participated.

Following lunch, everyone headed to their golf carts and the golf course for a shotgun start and 9 holes of golf. The course was in great shape. The weather was fair, but not ideal so everyone just bundled up.

Following golf, it was back to the bar, then dinner was served in the golf lounge as a wedding reception was going on upstairs in the main dining room at the same time (hats off to our staff!!). Then it was time for the prizes. First, 2nd and 3rd team prizes were awarded, then a bunch of draw prizes. It was a tie for the win, so the teams of Matt Hone, Kevin Cook, Shawn Pyke and Cory Burns split the sum of 1st & 2nd golf shop sweeps with the team of Jon O'Reilly, Mike O'Reilly, Cole Spicer and Matt Rankin.

BCC Men's Closing Golf Tournament Held in Ideal Weather

September 26, 2015: It may be late September, but it was sunny and warm for the BCC Men's Closing Tournament and the course was in great shape. Over 70 players participated in a 2-person modified Ryder Club format. The 1st six holes were played as a Best Ball from the RED tees; holes 7 to 12 were a modified Alternate Shot from the YELLOW tees and the final 6 holes (13 to 18) were a Scramble from the WHITE tees. Following play, members were treated to a spaghetti & meatball dinner with Caesar salad and garlic bread prepared by BCC's kitchen staff and served by Emile & her staff (And simultaneously, the BCC staff were hosting a wedding with ceremony outside beside #18 green and dinner in the main dining room - great job gang!).

Overall Men's Closing winners were Dave Dargie and Mark Peacock (Dave scampers as Mark is seen receiving golf bag prize from organizers Kris Gregoire an Mike Paquette in background). Many other prizes were given out as draw prizes for those in attendance.
Sunday is the BCC Ladies Closing and the weather is again forecast to be ideal.
Forecasts are for great weather deep into the fall and the Brockville Country Club will remain open until weather dictates otherwise.
The BCC Swing & Sweep is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, so get your teams booked for what will be a fun day.

Byan Sevigny Wins the Flagstick BCC Open

The third round of the BMG Cup Series was held at the Brockville Country Club, Saturday & Sunday, September 12 - 13, 2015. The weather was not favourable as Saturday was cool and saw a steady rain throughout the day. Sunday was much better but had to be delayed about 1 hour to allow a few pins to be changed and to get some water out of the bunkers. The players are used to varying weather, however, and didn't let it greatly affect their play.
In the end, Bryan Sevigny of Ottawa backed up his opening round of 69 with a one over par 73 to win the Stanley Thompson Flagstick BCC Open championship trophy by 5 strokes over Prescott's Phil Patterson. With two day totals of 149, Dwight Reinhart and Taylor Collins finished tied for third place.

Other flight winners were Phil Patterson (A); Mark Peacock (B); Brian Harper (C) and Glenn Caird (Senior). Mark and Brian are, of course, BCC members.
Flagstick Golf Magazine Publisher and President Jeff Bauder thanked all players who stuck it out in trying conditions and all staff at the BCC for presenting a great course to play and for their service as he awarded the prizes from sponsor NIKE Golf.
The Flagstick BCC Open is the third of the BMG Cup Series. The first was held at Smugglers and the second held at eQuinelle. The overall BMG Cup Series Player of the Year is Dwight Reinhart (3975 points) followed by Ryan Sevigny (3750) and Noah Steele (3075).

Organizers Jubliant at Friends of Palliative Care Golf Tournament Success

The Brockville Country Club was again the scene of the annual Friends of Palliative Care Golf Tournament, Wednesday, Spetember 2, 2015. And what an event this 22nd annual was! Some 260 golfers participated split over morning and afternoon draws. BCC then hosted a served 3-course meal in the "Granite Hall" to over 300 attendees.
Over the past 21 years, the tournament hosted by the BCC has raised over 2.2 million for palliative care. The goal this year was to raise over $200,000. But they also had a specific need and that was the replacement of special hospital beds at a cost of $23,500 each. When this became know, City councillor, Jeff Earle, made a donation of $100,000. Then just as the organizers were ready to announce their fund raising total, Donald Green Jr. on behalf of the Don & Shirley Green Family Charitable Foundation announced that the family would match everything raised that day. The total funds raised then became $649,000. The organizers were just blown away! (Photo below by the Recorder & Times).

The organizers with more than 65 volunteers need to be commended for their great effort in support of such a worthy cause. But all Brockville Country Club staff also need to be commended. The golf course was in great shape and the golf event ran very smoothly, even when given such a large field. The Granite Hall was set up to handle the huge crowd and the meal prepared and served by our BCC staff was superb. CONGRATULATIONS to everyone for a great day for a great cause.

"Monday Night Strippers" Active at the Brockville Country Club

The Brockville Country Club has a feature not found on many golf courses. Rock out-croppings exist that give the course a special flavour. Over the many years, however, many of these rock formations have become covered with moss and grass.
Enter The Monday Night Strippers!!
Lead by Mike Paquette (pictured in photo below), member volunteers have been meeting on Monday evenings to strip the rock faces of grass coverings. At this stage, Mike has often been on his own and would like company. After all, stripping by oneself is not so much fun!

Monday September 7th is Labour Day, so no stripping that evening. But each Monday following, starting at 6:00 PM, Mike will be busy enhancing our golf course. So how be we give Mike a hand. An hour or so a week would be a big help. Join "The Monday Night Strippers" and contribute in making our Brockville Country Club even more of a special place!! Congratulations Mike in this great initiative.

Mixed-Member Golf Tournament Held Saturday at the Brockville Country Club

Saturday, August 29, 2015 - The Brockville Country Club held a Mixed-Member Golf Tournament Saturday August 29, 2015, a tournament which hasn't been played at the BCC in a number of years. A great group of some 64 members attended with a 50/50 split between ladies and gentlemen members. There were lots of prizes; both draw prizes and prizes based on scores.

The overall winning team was (from l to r), Linda Lumsden, Bev Johnson, Graham Thompson and Gary Lalonde (who missed photo op).The team shot a 61; Wow! 11 under par!!

Coming in second overall was the team of (from l to r): Wade Johnson, Jennifer Harvey, Ted Broome and Roberta Riddell. They shot a 63, also a great score.
Following golf everyone was served a super meal in the main dinning room of salads, a pasta buffet with shrimp, chicken and all the fixings and a dessert buffet. Music from a play-list on a computer through the club's speakers was available for dancing after dinner.
The event was organized by Sandi Stewart with her committee of Linda Lumsden, Ted Clayton, Alain Dumont and Carson Kilpatrick.
Congratulations team in organizing a great event. Let's hope the Mixed-Member again becomes an annual BCC golf tournament.

British Invasion Summer Series Show a Blast

The Brockville Country Club held its fifth and last-for-the-season Summer Series dinner/show/dance in the Granite Hall Saturday August 22, 2015. The show featured the British Invasion, a band that travelled all the way from Toronto to appear. And it was a blast. The dance floor filled with the first song and stayed that way most of the evening. The band seemed to appreciate the audience's participation and really feed off their enthusiasm.

Preceding the show, Chef Jason presented a wonderful British flavoured meal of salad; prime rib of beef with Yorkshire pudding followed by a fruit pie topped with a creamy custard. Hummm Gooood!! Some 210 attended the dinner/show and had a great time. The Btitish Invasion lived up to their billing and certainly invaded the BCC. Who knows, perhaps given the great response we can have them back for an encore next year.

Sunday's Parent-Junior Tournament Wraps up BCC's 2015 Junior Program

Sunday, August 23, 2015 - The very successful 2015 Junior Program wrapped up for the year with a Parent-Junior tournament on Sunday. Sixty (60) juniors from the ages of 7 to 17 participated in the 2015 junior program with about 30 juniors taking part each Monday. BCC's new chipping area was a great addition as a teaching and training tool and was used each week.
The winners of the annual Parent-Junior Tournament for 2015 was Dax and Shane Easter pictured below.

A total of 56 players participated in the Parent-Junior Tournament which was followed by prizes and a delicious spaghetti dinner.

Paul Stillar the Latest to Get a Hole-In-One at the Brockville Country Club

Friday, August 21, 2015 - Golfing with his wife Susan, Paul Stillar was beaming after getting his first ever Hole-In-One. The feat occurred on "Little Misery", the Brockville Country Club's tricky hole number nine. Paul sheepishly said he used a 7 iron to make the shot.

When Paul was asked if he had any words to describe his accomplishment, Paul said he wanted to dedicate his hole-in-one to Brooke Henderson, "a great Canadian kid who is making all us proud". CONGRATULATIONS Paul on your hole-in-one and shared sentiment.

BCC's Granite Hall Resonates with Young Voices

Throughout July and August the Brockville Country Club's "Granite Hall' has been home to two Brockville Theatre Camps. Each camp of three weeks duration saw some 30 to 40 of Brockville's youth given instruction in live theatre. Each camp culminated with a performance of camp participants and guest artists. The second of these events occurred Friday evening, August 21st. The music featured songs from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (complete with a flying car), Willy Wonka and Damn Yankees.

The camps were created by and were under the direction of Todd Noel. The August performance was choreographed by Jason France, music director Mary Wonnancott-Hill, costuming Darren Cole, choreographer Allegra Crosby, camp assistant Philomena Lancione.

The performance, complete with special lighting and each performer individually mic'd, was very professionally done. Well over 175 family and friends attended the performance. Congratulations to Todd Noel for a great program. The Brockville Country Club is most pleased to be able to provide such a great venue in its Granite Hall for the Theatre Camps and wrap-up performances.

BCC Junior Championship Golf Tournament Held Monday August 17th

The Brockville Country Club's Junior Program runs each Monday during July and August. Some 60 juniors ranging from the age of 8 to age17 participated in the program this year under the direction of BCC club member volunteers Jon O'Reilly, Moe Gariepy and Ted Clayton.
The Junior Club Championship was held on a hot, sunny, Monday, August 17, 2015. Forty (40) juniors vied for the various categories.

The big winners, shown (l to r) are: Junior Boys Champ, Mitchell Lawn (shooting an 80); Junior Girls Champ Megan Read (shooting an 86); Junior Nine-Hole Champ Clark Moore (with a 48) and Men's Club Champion Yagiz Tuna 17, who shot 76, 73, 73 for a three day total of 222. In addition to on-the-course play, the younger juniors (ages 8 & 9) competed in putting and chipping events for prizes, all under the direction of Moe Gariepy.

BCC Club Championships Held Weekend of August 14 - 16, 2015

The Brockville Country Club held its Club Championships on the steamy hot weekend of August 14 - 16, 2015. Some 95 club members participated for honours in eleven (11) classifications. The Overall Men's Club Champion becomes Yagiz Tuna, shooting an average of 74 for a total 222 over the three rounds played for the Men's title. Adam Folco (226) was second; Dale Watts (227) third and Dale Robertson (228) fourth.
For the Ladies Club Championship, Leigh Ann Ellis repeats as club champion shooting a total 147 over their two rounds. Teri Deluis (162) took second place.
In addition to the Ladies, all other categories played Saturday & Sunday for a total of two (2) rounds (combined scores in brackets).
The Ladies A+ winner is Lucy Pouliot (175). Tied for second, Marsha Lindsay & Cathy Townshend at (191) each.
Ladies "B" Flight winner is Sue Blanchard (200). Second Gay Mailloux (204).
Ladies "C" Flight winner is Linda Lumsden (211), alone in her bracket.
Senior Ladies winner is Sharon Ellis (186) with Sandy Stewart second also at (186).
The Men's "B" Flight winner is Mike Hall (157), Second Earl Benson (164).
Men's "C" Flight winner is Ted Allan (164)  with Shane Easter and Paul Sloan tied for second also at (164).
Men's "D" Flight winner is Alan Heyman (184) with S. Marquis (187) second.
Senior Men's winner is Klyde Brayton (155) with Ardis Lindsay (158) second.
Men's Super Senior winner is Graham Thompson (165) with Don Houle (169) taking second place.

The BCC Competes in 69th Annual Border League Tournament

Saturday, August 8, 2015: The 69th running of the Border League Golf Tournament was held Saturday and hosted by the Smith Falls Golf Club. Teams participating included: Smith Falls Golf Club; the Brockville Country Club; Cornwall; Prescott; Gananoque; Partridge Run; St. Lawrence and Morrisburg. Cornwall was the overall winner by 9 strokes, with the Brockville Country Club taking second place honours, 3 strokes over third place Prescott..

Each team send one of their members to compete for the Border League President's Low Net Cup. In BCC's case, our rep was Jon O'Reilly. And represent us he did by winning the President's Low Net trophy following a 1 hole play-off against Scott of Prescott.

BCC Hosts OVGA Ladies Four-Ball Better Ball Tournament

Tuesday, August 4, 2015: The Brockville Country Club played host, on a beautiful sunny day, to the Ottawa Valley Golf Association's Ladies Four-Ball Better-Ball Tournament. Some 86 ladies participated with players coming from: Hylands; Carleton; River View; Cedar Hill; Mississippi; eQuinelle; Lombard Glen; Canadian; Greensmere; Prescott; Glen Mar; Nationview; Champion Nest and from the Brockville Country Club.
The four-ball competition is played over 18 holes of stroke play by teams of two, with each playing her own ball and each taking strokes where they fall on the score card in accordance with the course handicap.

OVGA officials Sandie Rance (with glasses) and Diane Illingworth are seem tabulating the results. Gross & net prizes were awarded. Anniversary trophies for low gross in classes A, B and C were awarded. The overall winners were Brenda Pilon and Lisa Jubinville of the Carleton Yacht & Golf Club.
The BCC was pleased to host the OVGA event and we trust everyone enjoyed the course and the club's hospitality.

BCC Hosts Canadian Aid for Chernobyl Gala

Wednesday, July 29, 2015, the Brockville Country Club hosted the Canadian Aid for Chernobyl Gala in the large, carpeted, air-conditioned Granite Hall. The gala drew 268 people who contributed to the fund raiser by bidding on a wide variety of items helping to raise $106,000 which will be used toward helping children in the radiation-ravaged area of Chausy, Belarus.
The Gala, under the direction of Dave Shaw, CAC director of humanitarian aid, used the theme "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". Twenty two (22) children staying with local host families for five weeks as part of this year's "respite program", participated in the gala. Entertainment, included stage performer Todd Noel singing "Any Dream Will Do" with the children providing backup.

The night also featured plenty of testimonials and success stories from CAC's work in Belarus.While the gala is CAC's biggest single-event fundraiser, it is also "an opportunity to give back" to the supporters, said Shaw. "They get a chance to see the children. They get a chance to interact with the children", he said.

As always the real stars of the gala were the children, with one of them, Mirone Ladyjenko (shown above at the BCC podium) charming the crowd as the evening's Master of Ceremonies.
The Brockville Country Club is pleased to host the annual Canadian Aid for Chernobyl Gala in its fine Granite Hall facility and commends Dave Shaw and his committee for the wonderful work they do in helping the children of Belarus.

BCC Team Shows Well at St. Lawrence District Golf Tournament

The 88th running of the St. Lawrence District Association's golf tournament was held Friday and Saturday, July 24 & 25, 2015 at the Mississippi Golf Club, just back of Carleton Place. With the Mississippi club celebrating their 100th anniversary, it was certainly an appropriate venue. Twelve (12) clubs participated, with the Brockville Country Club coming in third overall. Well done team! Cataraqui took 1st place and Prescott placed 2nd.
The twelve, ten-man teams that participated, with their total accumulated scores in brackets follow: Cataraqui (1231), Prescott (1239), Brockville Country Club (1270), Mississippi (1273), Cornwall (1279), Perth (1296), Garrison (1306), Smith Falls (1350), Amherstview (1362), Gananogue (1411), Potsdam (1425 and Massena (which was only able to field 6 players). Each team included one junior and one senior.

Well done team and CONGRATULATIONS on your third place finish in the very competitive 88th running of the St. Lawrence District Association Golf Tournament. Next year, the 89th tournament will be hosted by Garrison, just outside of Kingston.

Uppity Improv Brings Lots of Laughs to the BCC

Friday evening, July 24th was the scene of The Uppity Improv Society's latest improvisations held on the Cabaret stage set up in the main dining room of the Brockville Country Club. Under the theme, "There's No Blitz Like Show Blitz" , the cast presented a hilarious, fast paced, improvized comedy where suggestions from the audience drove the show. Also present was guest monologist, coach Peter Atkinson & friends. Under the direction of Mark Oliver and Curt Geneau, the Uppity Society presented a number or skits that had the BCC audience in stitches.

Be sure to catch the next performance at the BCC of the Uppity Improv Society if you want a light, entertaining and fun-filled evening full of laughs.

The British Are Coming to BCC's "Granite Hall"

Last Saturday evening we had a great time dancing to Freddy Vette & The Flames. They are the ultimate 50's & 60's Rock & Roll show band and their performance was impressive as usual. The BCC's Food & Beverage department also put on a superb dinner prior to the show featuring a fillet Mignon steak with shrimp and all the trimmings.
And now the BRITISH are Coming! That's right! The British Invasion, a well-polished four-piece band from Toronto will invade the BCC's Granite Hall and perform many hits from British bands such as The Beatles, The Searchers, Rolling Stones, Yardbirds, The Kinks and others. The date is Saturday, August 22, 2015. This is the fifth, and last of our Summer Series in BCC's Granite Hall for 2015.

A great 3-course served meal featuring a main of Prime Rib of Beef with Yorkshire Pudding will precede the show. So get a gang together and come join the fun. It will be a very enjoyable evening of fine food, lively entertainment and dancing with friends and guests from Brockville and area. That is Saturday, August 22, 2015 for the British Invasion Dinner/Show/ Dance at the BCC. Get your tickets early to ensure prime seating. Cheers!

BCC Wins OVGA Ladies Intersectional "A" Division

On a very hot, sunny and humid Sunday, July 19, 2015, the Brockville Country Club's OVGA Ladies Intersectional Team were victorious, winning the "A" division against Carleton Golf & Yacht Club, and the Royal Ottawa and Hylands Golf Clubs. The Brockville Country Club  hosted the intersectional so the BCC ladies certainly had home field advantage. Following play, and as part of being the host, the BCC provided a nice meal in the main dining room.
